There seems to be a tension between discipling people towards maturity in Christ and administering the local church. ‘Building the Church’ is seen as bad. It’s true you can be busy building the organization of the church and not make a single disciple.
On the other hand, as soon as you make a disciple… and if that disciple makes a disciple, you all of a sudden have the need for the biblical gift of administration. When will we meet? What will we study? Who can do what? How can we reach out and make more disciples? Etc., etc.
The church is the most powerful, beautiful and simple organization in the world. We would do well to not bog it down with bureaucracy and red tape, but there’s still room for Administration and Leadership to have expression in the local church. In fact, as God so gifts the church, there will be such expression.
God’s Kingdom grows through our participation. Use the gifts He has given you to strengthen the local church and make more disciples. We can do much more together than apart!
